Rooted in Walker: Meet Kay Landry

Posted

In a town like Walker, where community ties run deep and hard work still means something, Kay Landry has built a life and career that reflect both. Known by many as a trusted realtor, business owner, and familiar face around town, Landry’s story is one shaped by local roots, steady determination, and a genuine passion for helping people through some of life’s biggest transitions.

A Walker native and Walker High graduate, Landry did not always have every step of her future mapped out. In fact, she is the first to admit that figuring it all out did not happen overnight. “When I graduated, I had no idea what I wanted to be,” she said. “They want you at an early age to figure your whole life out while you’re in high school. But it usually doesn’t happen that way.”

Like many people just starting out, she spent time trying different things and learning herself along the way. Still, one thread had been quietly woven through her life from the very beginning. Her father worked in construction as a painter, and she grew up watching homes take shape from the ground up. “I was always around new construction,” Landry said. “I would ride with him to job sites when he would go look at jobs and things like that. So I was always fascinated with just houses in general, watching houses be built, watching houses come together.”

That fascination eventually turned into something more. She went to school, earned her real estate license, and stepped into an industry that would become both her profession and her calling. What started as an interest in homes became a much deeper appreciation for the people behind them. “Watching the excitement when someone makes that purchase,” she said, is what truly stayed with her. “That excitement comes with a $20,000 piece of land all the way up to the two and three million dollar properties. That excitement of, ‘This is mine. I have a piece of the American dream.’”

Over the last 20 years, Landry has built a name for herself in real estate by doing exactly that, helping people navigate the emotional, practical, and often overwhelming process of buying and selling property. But her path was not rushed. She learned the business in layers, beginning with buyers before moving into the seller side, and later expanding into land, commercial, and residential transactions. “When I got into real estate, I worked with just buyers that were looking to buy,” she said. “And then once I, in my mind, perfected that, that’s when I said, okay, I know how to work with the buyer. Now let me learn how to work with the sellers.”

That measured approach says a lot about the way Landry operates. She is not interested in simply checking boxes or getting someone to the closing table as quickly as possible. She wants to know the why behind every move. “I ask you, what is your end goal?” she said. “Are you looking for a house that’s a threeyear house, or are you looking for a lifetime house? That’s how I first learn how to help you.”
The same thoughtfulness applies when she works with sellers. For Landry, listing a property is never just about square footage, pricing, or paperwork. It is about understanding where someone is in life and where they are trying to go next. “It’s not just about, okay, great, let’s list your property,” she said. “I want to know why you’re selling. What is your end goal? What is your time frame? Where are you going to go once your house sells?”

That peoplefirst mindset has also given her some of the most meaningful moments of her career. Some of her favorite experiences have come from working with senior clients, walking through homes filled with a lifetime of memories and helping families through emotional changes. For Landry, those transactions often become about far more than real estate. They become about trust, listening, and respect.

She also believes her job does not end the moment papers are signed. In fact, that is where one of the most important parts of her service begins. “It’s not about just the sale. It’s the service after,” Landry said. “I always tell my clients, just because we are done with the closing and you have a home, if any questions, anything comes up that is house related, I am your go to person.”

That kind of longterm care has helped Landry build a business grounded in repeat clients, referrals, and relationships that last far beyond a transaction. In many cases, clients become something more like extended family. “Your clients become like family,” she said. “You gain lifetime friends in the business.”
It is easy to see how that happens. Landry brings not only experience to her work, but heart. She remembers what it was like to be new to the business, sitting in the office every day, soaking up everything she could from more experienced agents, learning how to talk to people and handle an industry that she says is “not for the faint of heart.” That willingness to learn, paired with a work ethic that has clearly carried her for two decades, remains part of what defines her today.

Of course, real estate is not the only avenue where Landry has made her mark. In addition to her longtime career, she is also the owner of Wildcat Nutrition in Walker and Route 16 Nutrition in French Settlement, along with a couple of investment properties. But even with multiple ventures to her name, she is clear about where her first love remains. “Real estate is and always will be my number one,” she said. “Not that I don’t love Wildcat, but real estate was always my passion.”

That balance between business ownership and family life is another important part of her story. One of the most special pieces of the Wildcat Nutrition journey is that her oldest daughter works alongside her and serves as the shop’s manager today. It is one more example of how Landry has built a life that is deeply intertwined with family, community, and the people she loves most.

In many ways, Landry represents the kind of success story that feels especially meaningful in a place like Walker. She did not leave home to build something remarkable. She built it right where she started, in the same community that shaped her. Through real estate, business ownership, and the relationships she has formed along the way, she has created a career rooted in service and sustained by authenticity.
No two days are the same in her world, and that is exactly how she likes it. “Another great thing about being a realtor, no two days are the same and no two people are the same,” she said.

For Kay Landry, that is not just part of the job. It is the reason she still loves it after all these years. Behind every property is a story, behind every client is a goal, and behind every closing is the chance to help someone step into a new chapter. In Walker and beyond, that is exactly what she has spent the last 20 years doing.
