That does it mean to be fit….to be well? Is it having noticeable muscle definition? Is it a number on a scale, or the waist and hip measurements? For many years, and even today we are conditioned to believe that being fit is defined by all the above. Yet, true health and wellness is much more than a physical appearance. Health can be achieved through a lifestyle with different dimensions, not just the physical. Spiritual, Emotional, Intellectual, Social, and Vocational all play an important part of being healthy.
Spiritual health whether a belief in God, a higher power, nature, or an unseen force reminds us that there are other influences contributing to our daily life.
Emotional health keeps us balanced in our thinking. Yes, there are theories and facts, and laws…but life decisions sometimes must factor in what makes us human, our emotions.
Intellectual well being keeps us grounded. Our brain, just as our muscles, must be engaged to stay strong and healthy.
Social wellness keeps us connected to each other. Relationships whether family, friends, acquaintances, or coworkers all play an important role in wellness.
Vocational wellness is defined in the hobbies and activities that are practiced.
When all the Dimensions of Wellness are practiced in one’s life…it will be appear not just in the reflection of the mirror, but also to others…in the reflection of his/her life. Life will be fulfilling, happy, and well lived.
